If You Don’t Know Where You’re Going…
I’m a terrible driver and have no sense of direction. I legit need guidance just to go from one end of my town to another. Luckily, I have no issue using GPS or asking someone how to get somewhere.
Sometimes I wish I could program a GPS to map out my life.
I love this quote from Alice in Wonderland-“If you don't know where you’re going, any road will get your there.”
I’ve also heard this version, “If you don't know where you're going, you won’t know when you get there."
They all say essentially the same thing, but it’s amazing how many people actually don’t know where they’re headed.
Some things in life can be left up to spontaneity, but in reality, most things should be mapped out.
In the beginning of January, I saw some of my friends post things like a map of what they want their life to look like, a vision board of sorts.
The great thing about a vision board is it can be a subtle, but constant reminder of what your goals are and where you’re headed.
Say your goal is to travel more and you need to save up money. Seeing a picture of Santorini or Paris on your vision board may remind you to stop going to Starbucks every day and that you don’t in fact need yet another pair of black Lululemon leggings.
I was chatting with a friend who is dating post-divorce. My friend is interested in finding a long term relationship and she said she can’t believe how often a guy she meets says they don’t know what they’re looking for.
I told her my advice was to tell them you wish them well and move on. She seemed surprised that I wouldn’t suggest she give them a chance. My thought was this-if they don’t know what they want, how could they possibly give you what you want?
Their indecisiveness is not for you to fix. If you want a relationship, find someone who also wants that. Otherwise you’ll be surprised when he doesn’t act like the boyfriend you hoped he’d be.
I made that mistake once and now I know better. So if he tells you he’s afraid of commitment, believe him…and then go find someone who isn’t.
A dream is just a dream until you take some action. And the reality is doing nothing, gets you nothing.
Because at the end of the day, “If you don’t know where you’re going, you won’t know when you get there.”
Wishing y’all lots of clear paths to a happy, beautiful and bright future.
